UF LitiGators Make History at Regionals!

The UF Mock Trial LitiGators earned a historic total of five bids at the 2021 American Mock Trial Association (AMTA) Regional tournaments. The first step in the AMTA competitive season is Regional tournaments, where the 700 teams across the country are divided into 24-team groups. The top quarter of those teams receive a bid to compete at the next level of competition, Opening Round Championships (ORCS), which is the last stop before Nationals. The LitiGators fielded five teams which competed at their respective Regional throughout the month of February. All tournaments were conducted virtually through Zoom due to COVID-19.

After months of preparation and competition experience at spring invitationals, the LitiGators were ready to face the top mock trial teams from across the country. At five Regionals, each of our five teams earned a bid to advance to ORCS! This is the first time in UF Mock Trial’s 14-year history that five teams have won a bid, and only the second time in all of AMTA history that a programs’ five teams have won. This win promotes UF nationally as a frontrunner in intellectual competition, in addition to UF’s athletic and academic achievements. Along the way, individual LitiGators won a total of seven Outstanding Attorney awards and four Outstanding Witness awards. Due to AMTA rules, only two teams per school are permitted to compete at ORCS. As such, two LitiGator teams are currently preparing to compete at ORCS on March 13-14. The LitiGators continue to work hard and strive to continue this historic winning streak by securing a spot at Nationals!
